JUSTIN DAUWELS Justin received the engineering physics degree from the University of Ghent in 2000. From 1999 to 2000, he was an exchange student at ETH, and completed his master's thesis at the Institute of Neuroinformatics in Zurich. He obtained a PhD degree in electrical engineering at the Swiss Polytechnical Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich in 2005. Justin was a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab (Physics and Media Group) in Fall 2003 and the University of Ghent (Digital Communications Research Group) in January 2004. In Spring 2004 he was an intern at the Mitsubishi Electric Research Lab (Cambridge, MA). He received postdoctoral training during 2006-2007 at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Wako-shi, Japan. He has been a JSPS postdoctoral fellow (2007), a BAEF fellow (2008), a Henri-Benedictus Fellow of the King Baudouin Foundation (2008), and a JSPS invited fellow (2010). MOHAMED ELGENDI Moe received the B.S. degree (first-class honours) in computer engineering from High Institute of Engineering, Egypt, in 2000, and the M.E. degree in electrical engineering with a scholarship from Charles Darwin University, Australia in 2006. In 2006, he was the recipient of Australian Government International Postgraduate Research Scholarship and submitted his PhD thesis in August 2010. In 2007, he has been awarded two scholarships: the first scholarship from Massachusetts Institute of Technology to attend advanced workshop in Data Modeling and the second scholarship from EU Marie Curie actions. In 2009, Elgendi was invited as a guest speaker in MIT-Harvard Division of Health Sciences and Technology. In the same year, he has been selected as a finalist for the 2009 AusBiotech-GSK Student Excellence Awards. MANUEL A. VAZQUEZ Manuel A. Vázquez obtained a degree and a Ph. D. in computer engineering from the University of A Coruña (Spain) in 2003 and 2008, respectively. Between April 2008 and March 2009 he was a hired researcher at Tampere University of Technology in Finland. From May 2009, he has been a researcher at Carlos III university (Spain). Currently he is enjoying a grant awarded by the government of Spain to research in the field of EEG signals with the group of Professor Justin Dauwels in Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). His main research interests include particle filtering, mimo systems, dynamic programming, positioning and EEG signals processing. |

LALIT GARG Lalit Garg received his first degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Barkatullah University, Bhopal, India and then obtained PGD in Information Technology from ABV-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior, India followed by a PhD in computer science (thesis title “Unified modelling for Care of the Elderly”) from the University of Ulster, UK. The contributions of his PhD thesis includes mathematical and statistical methods to aid informed healthcare decision making to ensure the quality of elderly care while at the same time reducing the cost. His PhD was fully funded by Healthcare modelling studentship from EPSRC, Government of UK and nominated for the Operational Research Society Doctoral Prize (result awaited). One of his papers is awarded the 2009 award of best paper published in Faculty Research Conference at the University of Ulster, UK. ESMAIL FATHI Esmail Fathi is an associate researcher at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). His research topic is Tracking and Predicting Traffic Flow in Dynamic Urban Transportation Networks. The approach is using physical models beside particle filtering to state estimation. Moreover Support Vector Machine (SVM) is an alternative method. He obtained a Master degree in Nuclear Biomedical Engineering at the Shahid Beheshti Universoty in Iran in August 2007.In 2004 he received the Electrical Engineering degree in field of Control and Instrument from the University of Tehran. His research interests are in Bayesian statistics, Image processing, Biomedical Signal processing and Industrial Control. He is investigated in many fields such as Industrial automation systems, Oil & Gas/Cement/Sugar Refinery/Water and Wastewater industries instrumentation, X-Ray florescence devices, Industrial Telemetry, etc. |

MARYAM KHANI Maryam Sharifkhani is visitor researcher in Biomedical Lab at Nanyang university of Technology (NTU). She Completed her bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering at University of Tehran in 2005. In 2005-2009 she completed her Master degree at Amir Kabir University of Technology in Plasma Physics. From November 2010 she starts working as researcher in Biomedical Electronic Lab at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of NTU under supervision of Dr.Dauwels. In this research she is investigating how EEG and MEG signals can be used to localize epilepsy foci, by applying tools from signal processing and machine learning. |

SRINICASAN KANNAN SRINIVASAN KANNAN received his B. Eng. degree from Bharathiar University, India in 2004 and the M. Eng. degree in Medical Electronics from Anna University, India in 2006. He is currently pursuing his Ph. D. degree in Indian Institute of Technology Madras , India, under the guidance of Prof. M. Ramasubba Reddy. Presently, he is an exchange student at NTU, working under Prof. Justin Dauwels. His research work focuses on lossless and near-lossless compression of multichannel EEG signals using multi-resolution techniques, matrix and tensor decompositions. |

ZHAO WEI Zhao Wei is currently a Ph.D. student in the NTU-SMART program under the supervision of Assit Prof. Justin Dauwels (NTU) and Associ Prof. Jianshu Cao (MIT). His current research interests are Bioinformatics and Biophysics. He was a M.Sc. student at National University of Singapore (NUS) from 2008 to 2010. There he conducted research on EEG signal analysis and its application in multimedia supervised by Assit Prof. Wang Ye. He obtained a B.Eng. degree in computer science and technology from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in 2006. |
HANG YU Yu Hang is currently a Ph.D. student at School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. He is now doing research on graphical models under the guidance of Prof. Justin Dauwels. Before studying for his doctorate, he obtained a bachelor's degree in Electronic and Information Engineering at University of Science and Technology Beijing. |

Choo Zheng Choo Zheng is currently studying Mathematical Sciences, specialised in Statistics. I am now a Year 3 student. I am from Malaysia and able to speak Mandarin, English, Malay, dialect and some other languages (but have not mastered them yet). I am now working with Prof Justin on the project--Mathematical model of extreme events. |

Minh Tu Hoang Hoang Minh Tu is currently an engineering undergraduate of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Her major is in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Since the start of her second year, Tu has joined Prof Justin Dauwels' team for a research in URECA program (Undergraduate Research Experience in CAmpus) of NTU. This research is mainly about developing an on-demand guidance system for drivers in Singapore. Her research is supposed to complete at the end of June, 2011. |

Manoraaju Krishnasamy Manoraaju is currently pursuing B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineeting from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is majoring in Power electronics and is focus is on the development of clean energy systems. Currently he is doing a Final Year Project under the supervison of Assistant Professor Justin Dauwels. ZHOU QIAO (Simon)n) Zhou Qiao (Simon) is majoring in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Minor in Business and Entrepreneurship) and expecting to receive his B.Eng. Degree (Hons) from Nanyang Technlogical University (NTU), Singapore, 2012. He also received the merit based full scholarship from Singapore Ministry of Education from year 2007- 2012. He has 6-month research experience with Assoc. Prof. Zhang Qing, focusing on ‘Carbon Nanotube Interconnect and Electrical Property’. Currently, he is doing a Final Year Project (FYP) titled ‘Mathematical Modeling of Extreme Events’, in collaboration with MIT and Shell Singapore, under the supervision of Assit Prof. Justin Dauwels (NTU). Lahsmikanthan Paramanathan Lakshmikanthan received the B.E degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Anna University,chennai in 2008 and have worked as a software programmerfor two years in a software MNC.He is currently doing M.Sc.in computer control automation from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).His master's thesis is on the topic of Compression of EEG signals under the supervision of Assit Prof. Justin Dauwels.The study includes implementing various tensor decomposition and wavelet methods for the compression of EEG. |

Nikhil Vij Nikhil Vij received the B.E degree in Electronics Instrumentation and Control from University of Rajasthan (India) in 2008. He is currently pursuing M.Sc. in Computer Control and Automation from School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His recent project is focused on joint analysis of EEG and fMRI data under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Justin Dauwels. The project aspires to extract relation among the two modalities in order to obtain more detailed information on when and where the activation occurred in brain. Project seems promising to discover techniques which can efficiently reveal the hidden activated sources. |
